At this point, I’m feeling like I’m in the power seat but on one hand my current life is pulling in one direction and my vision for my future is pulling me in another direction.
If you missed how we even got to this point of landing two offers from the same company, check out part 1 and part 2 of this series first.
The Backup Plan
Ok, so I mentioned having this vision and applying based on that. But can I be honest with you?
I had a backup plan.
Because I knew I needed to move on from my current situation, I was willing to stay in sales if the environment was suitable and from there I would make an internal pivot.
So I also applied to sales jobs that I knew I would get. One within this dream company as well.
Have you ever been tempted to stay in a place you've outgrown?
Yep!
Nope, never!
LinkedIn As A Key Player
It’s important to note that LinkedIn played a key role here.
The sales manager found me on LinkedIn, connected with me, and reached out to one of my college classmates (who was literally in every marketing class with me all 4 years) to ask about who I was. With some advice from my classmate, I landed that role as well.
Don't Give Into Doubt
Now you may be thinking this can’t happen for you.
But with these steps that I’m sharing with you, it can.
I’m not an extroverted person who can talk their way into any desired outcome. I’m not the most popular person and don’t have this huge network of people who can vouch for me.
What I do have is a valuable skillset, determination, and hunger to live a fulfilling life. That’s what I stand on and you can too.
My Final Decision
So what did I do when the safe option presented itself in the same room as the new opportunity that sparked this whole journey in the first place?
I decided to bet on myself and accepted the role of Product Marketing Manager and it was the best decision.
Not because of anything other than standing firm in what I set out to do and not allowing comfort to cripple me.
Now I’ve gone on to receive two promotions, I get to design my role based on my interests, and my son is still at home with me which has been my greatest joy.
What would life look like for you if you finally decided to make that pivot you’ve been considering for so long? Who would be impacted because you made now the time?
In the final part of this series, I’m going to share with you what is actually holding you back and how to get unstuck immediately…continue to Part 4
